KindLearn

Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 17, 2026

Summary: KindLearn is 100% free and we do not sell your data or serve ads. We collect what we need to run the app and what you choose to add to your profile, plus an anonymous count of when lessons start. Your name and progress are shown to other signed-in learners on the leaderboard. Children's data in our Kids Zone is handled under COPPA and GDPR-K with parental consent. You can request deletion of your data at any time.

1. Who We Are

KindLearn is operated by KCF LLC (Kindness Community Foundation), a mission-driven organization dedicated to free, accessible education. You can reach us at hello@mymindstudio.ai.

KindLearn is available at kindlearn.ai and as a Progressive Web App.

2. Information We Collect

Account information: When you register, we collect your name and email address, and we record when you last signed in. If you turn on email reminders or friend challenges, we also ask for your date of birth. We use magic-link authentication — we never store your password.

Profile (optional): If you fill in your profile, we store what you enter there: phone number, location, bio, website, learning goals, social media handles or links (X, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and GitHub) and a profile photo.

Reminders: If you turn on email reminders, we store the email address they go to, the time you choose and the time zone they are sent in. For an account under 13, reminders go to the parent email address saved in Parent Settings.

Friends and family boards: If you sign up through a friend's invite link, we store who invited you until you confirm your email address. When you link with a friend, we store the link between your two accounts. If you create or join a family board, we store its name, its invite code and who is in it. Section 6 explains what friends and family members can see.

Learning data: Lesson progress, XP, streaks, badges, flashcard reviews, vocabulary scores, the words you get wrong most often, practice minutes, diagnostic quiz results and the in-app notifications we show you. This data powers your personalized learning experience.

Usage data: We use no analytics service. There is no Google Analytics, Plausible, PostHog, Segment or Mixpanel tag on any page, and nothing records the pages you visit, how long you stay or what device you are on. Our server keeps ordinary request logs. AI practice and KindBot, the help chat, share one daily allowance. To keep to it, we count each day how many messages you send to AI practice and KindBot and how long they are, against your account if you are signed in or against your IP address if you are not, and those counts are deleted after 7 days. When a lesson starts, we also add one to a running total for that hour of the day, day of the week and language, taken from your device's clock, so we can see when people learn. Nothing that identifies you is stored with that total: no account, session or IP address.

Voice input: Speaking exercises, the Kids Zone pronunciation game and the microphone in AI practice use the speech recognition built into your browser. In some browsers, such as Google Chrome, your recording is sent to the browser maker's speech service to be turned into text. KindLearn never receives the recording, and pronunciation scoring runs on your device.

Kids Zone data: For users of the Kids Zone (ages 4–12), we collect only the minimum data needed to run the feature: the name, avatar and age band entered for the child, and their progress. Kids Zone data is stored on the account of the adult who set it up. Parent Settings stores your choices there, including the daily time limit and the email address you enter for progress summaries. We ask that children under 13 use KindLearn only through a parent or guardian's account. We should be straight with you: sign-up asks for a name and an email address and nothing else, so we have no technical age check that would stop a child registering on their own.

Communications: If you contact support, we retain the content of your message to resolve your query.

Blog email sign-up: If you enter your email address in the box at the end of a blog article, we store that address and the article you signed up from, and use it only to email you about KindLearn. You can ask us to remove it at any time by emailing hello@mymindstudio.ai.

We do not collect payment information. KindLearn is free.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide, personalize, and improve the KindLearn service • Send progress reminders and learning streak notifications (only if you opt in) • Respond to support queries • Detect and prevent abuse or fraud • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising.

4. Children's Privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K)

KindLearn's Kids Zone is designed for children aged 4–12. We take children's privacy very seriously and comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and GDPR provisions for child data.

Parental consent: Children under 13 access the Kids Zone through a parent or guardian's account. The parent/guardian provides consent by creating the account and enabling Kids Zone access.

Data minimization: We collect only the data strictly necessary to deliver age-appropriate lessons and track progress. We do not serve behavioral advertising to children. We do not share children's data with third parties except as required to operate the service (e.g. our hosting provider, Netlify). The Kids Zone pronunciation game uses your browser's own speech recognition, described under Voice input in section 2.

Parental rights: Parents and guardians may review, correct, or delete their child's data at any time by contacting us at hello@mymindstudio.ai. We will respond within 30 days.

No direct marketing to children: We do not contact children directly for marketing purposes.

If you are in the European Economic Area or UK, our legal bases for processing your personal data are:

• Contract performance — processing your account and learning data to deliver the service you signed up for. • Legitimate interests — improving the app, preventing fraud, and ensuring security, where our interests are not overridden by your rights. • Consent — sending optional notifications (you may withdraw consent at any time via app settings). • Legal obligation — retaining data where required by law.

6. Data Sharing & Third Parties

We share data with the following categories of third-party service providers, under data processing agreements:

• Netlify (hosting and edge functions) — serves your requests and hosts the application • MongoDB Atlas (database) — stores your account and learning data securely • Resend (transactional email) — delivers magic-link authentication emails and optional notifications • Anthropic (Claude) — powers AI conversation practice and KindBot, the help chat on the help center and behind the AI Tutor button; the text you type in AI practice, and any KindBot question its built-in answers do not cover, is sent to Anthropic to generate a reply, processed under its own terms and not used to train its models

Voice input is turned into text by your browser's own speech service, not by KindLearn (see Voice input in section 2).

Other learners: Some of your data is shown to other KindLearn users. The leaderboard shows signed-in learners the top 20 by all-time XP, with each learner's name, total XP, current streak, languages and badges. Friends you link with through an invite link see your name, your profile photo, the language you have the most XP in, and your day, XP, streak and last active date in that language. Members of a family board you create or join see your name, total XP, current streak, number of badges and last active date.

We do not share your data with data brokers, advertisers, or analytics companies.

We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of KindLearn, our users, or the public.

7. Data Retention

We retain your account and learning data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it for longer.

You may request deletion of your account and data at any time by emailing hello@mymindstudio.ai.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you • Correction — request correction of inaccurate data • Deletion — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten") • Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests • Restriction — request that we limit how we use your data • Withdrawal of consent — for any processing based on consent

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@mymindstudio.ai. We will respond within 30 days. If you are in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

9. Cookies & Tracking

KindLearn sets no cookies at all. Your browser's storage keeps your sign-in token, your theme and interface language, your flashcard and vocabulary review schedule, your place in a lesson, any lesson results that could not reach our servers, the Kids Zone minutes used today, your reminder time if you allow browser notifications, which one-time prompts you have already seen, and a copy of the home page and app icons for offline use. While a tab is open it can also hold a friend's invite code and the page to return to after you sign in.

Most of this never leaves your device. Three things are sent to our API: your sign-in token, to prove who you are; lesson results that could not be saved, once your connection works again; and an invite code, if you signed in through a friend's invite link. We use no advertising or tracking cookies because we use no cookies.

For full details, see our Cookie Policy at kindlearn.ai/cookies.

10. Security

We use industry-standard security practices including HTTPS encryption, magic-link authentication (no passwords stored), and access controls on our database. While we take reasonable steps to protect your data, no system is 100% secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify registered users by email or via an in-app notice. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of KindLearn after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
